Omalos plateau, the starting point for many hikes to the White Mountains, is two hours’ walking through mountain paths used by shepherds of the area. A 23 km drive (20-25 minutes) leads hikers by bus or by car to the entrance of the National Park of Samaria in Xyloskalo. Sougia is 17 km away (20 minutes’ drive), where you can find the beautiful beach and the start of hiking destination like Lyssos or Tripiti. The city of Chania is approximately 45 km and 31 km respectively to Paleochora.
